I often find myself staring at the Moon, thinking about the footprint it left on our history. But today, the conversation is about the future. The Artemis II mission isn't just a flight; it’s a 10-day journey that will take humanity – and a Canadian – further into the cosmos than we’ve been in over fifty years.

The Mission: A Lunar Loop.
Artemis II serves as the first crewed test of the Orion spacecraft and the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket. The mission’s objective is to fly approximately 10,300 km past the far side of the Moon. This "lunar flyby" is designed to verify that life-support systems can keep humans safe in the rigors of deep space. For a curious amateur like me, the idea of a spacecraft using the Moon’s gravity as a "slingshot" to return to Earth is a fascinating blend of physics and discovery.

The Crew: Four Pioneers.
This mission brings together a highly skilled crew of four, each representing a significant milestone in space exploration: (From left to right)
· Reid Wiseman (Commander): A veteran astronaut providing experienced leadership for the flight.
· Victor Glover (Pilot): Making history as the first person of color on a lunar mission.
· Christina Koch (Mission Specialist): The record-breaking astronaut who will be the first woman to venture to the Moon.
· Jeremy Hansen (Mission Specialist): Representing the Canadian Space Agency, Jeremy is a former CF-18 fighter pilot who joined the CSA in 2009. Having grown up on a farm in London, Ontario, he went on to become the first Canadian ever entrusted to lead a NASA astronaut class. His presence on this mission marks the first time a Canadian will travel to the lunar vicinity, a moment of significant pride for our country’s scientific community.

As we watch this new era of lunar discovery unfold, it’s a reminder that exploration is a collaborative effort that pushes the boundaries of what is possible. At KosmikFlow, we’ll be following the mission closely, inspired by the science and the team making it happen.
Godspeed, Artemis II. The world (and Canada) is watching.
